moonlit horse

The moonlight was so bright over Easter, I braved the cold with the camera to photograph the horses. The ground was absolutely glowing with blue light. There was a bit of surprised snorting at the camera noises, but the horses soon decided it was acceptable.

pastel - unfinished

It was only after I took a rest from this pastel (based on a warmblood) that I realised it was really a portrait of Juno - not a warmblood at all. I will have to go back to it armed with this new knowledge!

horses I know - juno

pencil drawing of mare after rolling Juno pushes herself up after having a good, luxurious roll in the dust. After getting up she gives herself a good shake, like a wet dog, and then wanders of to graze - satisfied in having undone all my careful grooming efforts.

inspiration - horses I know

stretching horse's legs before ridingThis is an ink (Liquid Spectrum) on Colourfix board. It's inspired by a photo my husband took of me with Helen's mare, Juno. I'm just reaching down to stretch out her front legs before riding. I've emphasised our shadows so the image is almost becoming abstract in the left corner. Some of the intensity of the blue ink has been lost in this reproduction.
